Hype Be Gone - True Pros and Cons of Homeschooling

So you're interested in the true pros and cons of homeschooling?

Homeschooling is touted as our children's best friend or their worst enemy, depending on whom you ask. It's our goal here at homeschooling-family to give you the truth. Read on to discover more.

Time. Homeschooling does take lots of time, and it will likely cut down on the amount of personal time you have. This can be a con, but it's a price I'm willing to pay. Note - You may be surprised that many times homeschooling can be done by noon.

Is the character development of your child important to you? It sure is to us! A smart child with poor character will use his knowledge selfishly and may end up harming others.

It seems that many discussions about homeschooling will inevitably bring up the question of social disadvantages of homeschooling. If I teach my child at home, won't he become a social misfit?

That's right - he won't!

Listen to a story and learn from an expert, as he teaches about the supposed social disadvantages of homeschooling.

And hey - don't forget about me! I'd also like to tell you about the supposed disadvantages of homeschooling, as seen from our house.

Ok, you are realizing that your child's character would probably improve with home education, and likely their social skills would improve as well. But wouldn't they suffer academically? After all, public school teachers are far more educated than you are.

This is an area where misconceptions abound. Lets clear them up. Statistics show that on average, your child will:

  • Do better academically in your home than in any other school!
  • Outperform publicly and privately schooled students in every grade!

We've considered a number of the pros and cons of homeschooling. While we would stop short of saying home education is for everyone, we are convinced that for many of us the evidence points overwhelmingly in favor of homeschooling.

You're the one who wants an excellent education for your child. Now it's up to you to make the best decisions, so that can happen.

I hope that we at homeschooling-family will be able to assist you in reaching your goals. Go for it!

Glad to be dad,
